Some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who pays for the supervised contact service?

This depends entirely on the case arrangement. For private law cases, payment responsibility is normally agreed upon by the parents or dictated by a court order (often split 50/50 or paid entirely by one party).
For public law cases, funding is typically spot purchased directly by the instructing Local Authority.

All fees must be received 48 hours in advance of the session.

Can family members other than parents (e.g., grandparents) attend the supervised sessions?

Yes, provided it is supported by the court order or the agreed referral information. We recognise the value of wider family connections and can facilitate supervised family time that includes grandparents, siblings, or other significant people who are important to the child.

How do you prepare a child who might be anxious about supervised contact?

We understand that this process can feel overwhelming for a child. Where needed, we can arrange a preparation session with the child/ren. During these sessions, our team uses a gentle, child-focused approach. We can provide child-friendly introductory materials, and our supervisors spend time putting the child at ease before family time begins, ensuring the environment feels supportive, natural, and safe.

Do you offer community supervised contact if there is an active non-molestation order or injunction between the parents?

Yes. We specialise in high-conflict cases. Because our handovers and contact sessions are community-based and completely staggered, we ensure that the parents never have to see, meet, or interact with one another. Safety and strict legal boundary compliance are our highest priorities. Our team has significant experience working with domestic abuse cases and holds specialised training qualifications.

What happens if a parent is late or fails to show up for a session?

We operate under a strict attendance and cancellation policy outlined clearly in our referral process. If a parent is delayed, our priority is managing the child’s emotional well-being. We keep accurate logs of any lateness or non-attendance, as this information is vital for ongoing court reviews and future contact arrangements.

Will the contact supervisor give opinions or recommendations in their recordings?

We do not include any opinions or judgments in our recordings. We focus on accurately capturing what is said and done during the session. This approach ensures that our recordings are clear and impartial, providing a reliable source of evidence that parents, family courts, and lawyers can trust.

Can parents self-refer, or does it have to come through a solicitor?

We welcome both. We accept private self-referrals from parents directly, as well as formal professional instructions from Family Law Solicitors, Mediation Services, CAFCASS, and Local Authority Children’s Services.

Are your staff fully vetted and trained?

Yes. All Compass team members hold enhanced DBS checks, are fully insured, and are extensively trained and experienced in Child Contact facilitation, Child Safeguarding protocols, and Domestic Abuse awareness.

What days and times are you available?

We provide flexible availability seven days a week, including full and flexible availability during weekdays, evenings, and weekends to effectively support school schedules, work commitments, and foster placements.

How quickly are the contact session reports delivered?

Thorough, factual, and neutral contact observation recordings are securely emailed to the relevant parties or legal representatives within 48 hours of every session.
